In 1830, Emily Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts. She was one of three children. Emily was raised in a well rounded family, and well educated. She died and was raised in the same house called Homestead. It was pass on from one generation to the next. In the Dickinson house the men were the dominant ones. They were attonernies, and in the political atmostsphere. Emily felt let out, even though she knew a great deal about policties she was out casted because of her sex. In her early childhood she was a normal little girl, but had great talent. She was seen as a great thinker as a child. She stuided at the Amherst Acadent, and then went to Mount Holyoke Female Seminary before returning home. At home Emily became a very private person, even with her poems. She would spend all her days in her room or around the house. Close friends and family were mainly her only contact to the outside world. She would write letters to her closes friends to keep them updated about her feelings, or her slight depression. It seem as if she was going downwards fast. She lost so many close people in her life that she loved very dearly. Her poems are reflection of her feelings, and being alone, and the life she was living. The many poems that were put out to the public while she was alive were altered to fit the era of the time. The publisher would make her poems read the way they wanted them to read. Many of Emily's poem were about death, and immortality. Also during her life Emily was a very religious person, cherishing God as much and as best as she could. During the last few years of her life she because even more isolated. Writting only to those she felt were deserving. After her mother died she seems to stay under her rock she build for herself. During her last few years Emily's health started to take its toll. She didnt really talk about her problems, she was dying alone. On May 15, 1886, Emily died from the illness she was hiding. Her symtoms just started to decline. Emily was finally diagonised to have Kidney diease after she died at the age of 55. And for her last request her family carried her coffin though the fields of buttercups to be buried in the family plot. After she died her family released a great deal of her work to the public.
